Best fishing Punta Cana in February

Punta Cana Fishing Report: February 2026

Captain’s Log Big Marlin Charters

Man, nobody and I mean NOBODY can ever predict exactly what tomorrow’s fishing will bring, even if yesterday was epic and you came back loaded with fish. Same moon phase, same wind direction, same swell… but every single day out there is different. That’s the magic (and the madness) of the ocean!

December and January were solid about 75% of our trips came back with fish in the box. That’s good by any standard. But let’s be real: hauling in a couple of decent mahi mahi and a barracuda or two? That’s just “regular” fishing. Solid, fun, but nothing to write home about.

What Fish Were Caught in February?

Then February hit… and brothers and sisters, THE FISH ARRIVED!
As the old-school Dominican captains say: “¡Llegó la pesca!” the bite turned absolutely INSANE!

This pelagic fish migration we chase around the Dominican Republic (especially here in Punta Cana) is seasonal, no question. But how is Punta Cana Fishing in February 2026? It went next level. Huge schools of big mahi mahi rolled in, yellowfin tuna crashing the spread, and even white marlin showing up in numbers that had us screaming with joy. The water was alive everywhere you looked, birds diving, bait popping, and rods bending over double!

Every single day our boats came back stacked to the rails. I’m talking deck space disappearing under fish. Multiple hookups at once were the norm four rods going off simultaneously? No problem! One guy in the fighting chair battling a beast, another strapped into the belt harness cranking on a big tuna, and two more clients hand-lining from the rocket launcher, just waiting their turn to jump in the chair. Pure chaos… the BEST kind of chaos! Clients were getting worn out from fighting fish, not from boredom. We had lines screaming, reels singing, and non-stop action from the moment we set the spread.

And the weather? Cooperated like it was on our side for once! Calm seas, gentle swells we only lost 4 days total in the whole month to bad conditions. In February that’s almost unheard of normally we get pinned down for at least a full week with big waves rolling in. Not this year. February spoiled us rotten!

February is traditionally a very interesting month for Punta Cana deep sea fishing. Many anglers come to the Dominican Republic hoping to catch sailfish during this period. But this year arrived a little bit less than usually.

Our crew was buzzing too no time to get tired because the action never slowed down. Smiles everywhere, high-fives all day, and clients leaving with the biggest grins and the best stories. We got flooded with awesome reviews people were over the moon.

One memory that sticks with me forever: that solo Canadian angler who chartered the Blue Sky. The guy absolutely demolished it covered the deck in mahi, tuna, you name it. Check the photos for proof the boat looked like a floating fish market! Another highlight: the couple from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana who just kept pulling fish after fish. Seeing their happy, exhausted, sun-kissed faces at the end of the day? That’s why we do this.

Bottom line: February 2026 is hands-down the BEST fishing month so far this year for Big Marlin Charters. Epic numbers, trophy-sized fish, perfect weather, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Now March? We’re already sitting on 8 straight days of big swells and no-go conditions. But hey that’s the game. Mother Nature calls the shots. We wait, we watch the forecast, and when she gives us the green light… we’ll be right back out there, lines in the water, ready for the next explosion.

If you’re planning a trip to Punta Cana, hit me up. The bite can change overnight, but right now? The ocean is ON FIRE. Let’s go catch some monsters!

Tight lines,
